Giveaway! A Day with A Difference

iPad Screenshot 1
I recently had the opportunity to use the new iPad app, A Day with  A Difference.  It is a great interactive story book that teaches basic concepts.  The main characters, Mr. Big and Mr. Small, guide you through a series of events where basic concepts are encountered in natural situations.  For example, there was only one washer left at the laundromat, so Mr. Big and Mr. Small had to share.  Oh no!  Their clothes are all mixed up.  Will you help them sort their clothes?  My students loved the interactive games in this story!  Basic concepts targeted include bigger and smaller, longer and shorter, same and different, more and less.  After reading the story, there is an option to play bonus games.  It was possible to collect a lot of data in a short amount of time during these games. Overall, this would be a good addition to your therapy tool box if you work with preschool aged children.

  3. Hi Ashley,

I, too, have enjoyed finding fun and new ways of using my iPad during therapy. I just received my iPad this year, and have found many great apps to use with my older students, but not as many with my preschoolers. I recently started with a preschooler with a cleft palate who has language delays and significantly reduced speech intelligibility, but is very motivated to work for the iPad! This app sounds like something he'd love. Please consider me. Thank you!

  8. Hello Ashley! I wanted to tell you that I love your blog! I just found it today through Speech Time Fun and Sublime Speech. I am an SLP a little bit north of you in Minneapolis, MN. We had an ice storm today, so no school! I spent the day surfing Pinterest and SLP blogs. :) So glad I found yours! I also have a blog/website if you would like to check out. I focus mostly on social/emotional communication skills, pragmatics. I added your site to my blogroll right away. I follow probably 30+ speech blogs - if you want to find more - check out my blogroll, it is on the lower right portion of my front page. I am on Pinterest too. I added myself as a follower for your boards. A gal can easily lose 6-7 hours on Pinterest.

I gotta tell you, I especially love your use of "old sound", "new sound" language with your artic friends.=A0 I have been an SLP for 17 years now with elementary
kids. While I rarely work with artic now since I mostly do social language, my occassional artic student comes along. I really like the positiveness of this phrase you use, rather than saying, "Nope - wrong." I also really like your treasure map reward system. Might use something like that next year...I'm getting sick of my "Kuz Cash" system (my last name is "Kuzma"). Gotta change it up after a few years. :) Anyway, better run - gotta get the kids a bedtime snack and off the x-box. :) Check out my site if you get a chance - I would love if you added me to your blogroll. The site is: http://jillkuzma.wordpress.com
Thanks again for a great sharing site!
    Best wishes....Jill Kuzma
